Bacteria on taps?

what is the white and slight green stuff that is on the ends of the taps... is it bacteria and is it harmful or not...to drink from...if u touched it n put your hands near your face or mouth would it pass germs? LOL random but hey!! :D

Bacteria on taps?
Whoo, whose taps? White deposits are most likely limescale and any green is probably algae that has managed to find a footing on the limescale. In themselves neither are harmful, but as they provide a moist, uneven surface they are likely to harbour germs. Of course the tap limits this as it runs frequently and 'washes' where it passes, but I wouldn't want to dip the end of such a tap in to a drink! A good scour is needed I reckon!
Reply:Probably limescale and it won't hurt you,no.
Reply:its limescale and needs a good scrub clean
Reply:Limescale coloured with copper sulphate from the copper pipes. Harmless but can absorb organisms. Clean (UK) with Limelite (Sainsbury's),
